Parish Hall History

Parish Hall History

After several years of fund raising the Hall was built and opened in September 1957.  It consisted of a main hall with a stage, toilets and kitchen facilities. In 1962 an extension was added providing a much larger kitchen and room for a snooker table.  During the 1980’s a storeroom was added, and the toilet facilities were improved to meet with new regulations.  During the last few years there has been a huge effort to upgrade and improve all parts of the building and grounds in order to provide better facilities including:

– A sound system including a loop for the hard of hearing installed.

– Major extension completed including the building of a Committee Room, disabled toilet, serving hatch, extension to the store room, new kitchen roof and the inside and outside of the building repaired and repainted.

– New folding modern tables and 100 new comfortable chairs.

– Full gas central heating system including boiler and radiators.

– Further fund raising during Golden Jubilee year towards the next projects.

– Resurface of the whole Car park and drive.  Double glazing installed throughout the building.  New gas cooker added to the kitchen.

– New lighting installed including stage lighting for use with the annual pantomime and other productions.

– Provision of an outside dawn to dusk light following annual H&S review.

– Busy fund raising towards the major kitchen refurbishment planned to be in place in time for the Hall’s 50th Birthday in September 2007.

– 50th Birthday marked with a party held on the exact date.

– Major Kitchen refurbishment project completed.

– The outside of the Hall completely repainted.

to 2015 A major extension was proposed but despite a huge amount of effort the grant application to The Big Lottery failed at part two of a three stage process.  The Committee decided to focus on a smaller scheme being spread over three phases.

– Phase 1 was completed in July.  The Snooker table was removed from the kitchen and the room split into two.  A modern kitchen is now situated next to Room 2000 and the other room is a multi-use space that can be used either as a separate room or as additional floor space to the Main Hall.

– The Hall celebrates its 60th Birthday in September.

– New stage lighting and it was decided to keep the Stage and refurbish it.

– The main Hall was completely repainted and is looking great.

– Following fund raising and successful grant applications we completed our Toilet extension project and launched the Hall again after Covid by showing off the facilities at a special open afternoon during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
